Good Morning Everyone
Bernard can count himself very he was allowed to drive such a high powered vehicle on a P Plate Licence. Our law here in Sydney forbids that until you get your full licence.Too many young people have had accidents and died behind the wheel driving "high performance cars".
Regarding Nalbandian I have read reports after Argentina's loss in the DC final and I am quite disturbed to say the least of what went on in their locker room.If these reports are 100% true..... |

Interesting! Here you need a special license for motorcycle (good luck getting into a class here) and commercial and maybe livery, but nothing different for sports cars. (Although many many people in the US can't drive manual transmission, especially younger people). |

jurasick - (Does this mean you are sick of jura espresso machines? And if so, in what sense?)
Roger likes Krajicek just fine. As a matter of fact, Roger showed up to do major pr for RK when he, (Roger), announced he was going to play in his (RK's) Rotterdam tournament this coming year. He, (RF), simply wanted someone with more business acumen. Since he, (RK), runs a tournament, RK certainly has some...but perhaps not enough to take on the ATP.
Aussiemarge - did you watch that video I linked at 1:48? Nothing you need brace yourself for - just kinda sweet and kinda nice that the Swiss #2 finally gets some love. |

My - those are interesting comments from Rafa on how he perceives his situation last year.
Of course, this IS the Ticker - so large grain of salt required...heaven only knows what they edited out.
Still, I did find this bit intriguing..
http://www.tennis.com/articles/templates/news.aspx?articleid=15399&zoneid=25
"I see it more a mental issue. Maybe I hit three shots from the baseline and have been able to last to the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh ... With just three maybe I [wasn’t effective enough], but with more maybe I will be. That's what I have to do next year, not just against him (Novak), but also against the whole world."
"Nadal added that he began to encounter problems with his serve after the start of the year, has a "coordination complex," and in order to do better in 2012, that he must serve harder and more accurately. He also said that his reflexes slowed in 2011 and he must return to normal."
Hmmm...if Rafa figures out how to tweak his reflexes back up to 'normal' I hope he share he secret with TMG, whose reflexes, according to some, are dying on the vine even as we speak.
|
|
Posted by CL |
12/15/2011 at 04:08 PM |
Also- re Rafa's comments - I am not sure wanting to hit MORE shots against Novak is the correct attitude to bring to the court. It seems to me that the single biggest difference between earlier Novak/Rafa matches and the Novak/Rafa matches of 2011, was Novak's ability to totally hang with Rafa no matter how long the point lasted, no matter how many balls were hit. To the point where, in a couple of their matches, it was Rafa running out of gas, not Novak. Not sure drawing things out even more is going to work. Unless of course, Rafa has figured out a way to slip a little gluten into Novak's daily diet..;-)) |

"I may have exaggerated a bit when I said that 80 per cent of the top 100 women are fat pigs. What I meant to say was 75 per cent of the top 100 women are fat pigs.

TD, you seriously don't know? Here, from Wiki:
"Also in 1992, Krajicek made a controversial comment regarding equal pay for women in Grand Slam events, saying, "Eighty percent of the top 100 women are fat pigs who don't deserve equal pay." Later, he jokingly clarified his comments, remarking, "What I meant to say was that only 75 percent are fat pigs.""
LOL!
(Wiki does go on to say Krajicek later "showed remorse," but I prefer to leave that part out.) |

Good thing he didn't get the aTP job...relations with the WTA would have been fraught. do you remember if he said that around the same time...ok...forewarned...this is a SUPER vague memory...but there was a journeyman player at Wimby who went off on this appalling anti women's tennis and just plain anti women rant after - I think maybe - his match was delayed because a women's match ran long??? Does this ring any bells with anyone. Would have been...hmm...late 80s/early 90s maybe???

I remember those comments of dear old Richard. It's not surprising that Roger maybe questioned whether he had the acumen, not to mention tact and discretion, to run the ATP. But hopefully, aging has brought some wisdom. Now, he'd be down to saying only 60 percent are fat pigs. |

Arun - my favorite line from that story -
"Women's tennis was outraged, of course. Martina Navratilova said she would punch his lights out. She said she was joking." lol
But I think there was ANOTHER such incident, involving a journeyman player, and I certainly wouldn't describe Krajicek as a 'journeyman' except, obviously, in the brains department, where, actually, he doesn't even rise that far. |

AM/yes, but this is a more recent interview, where he repeats what he had said about passion. Or at least the Ticker makes it seem that way.
But, the other thing is that in this interview he actually talks more about strategy and tactics, which I find more interesting that the 'passion gap' anyway. In the Ticker article he seems to be saying he wants to get into even MORE and longer trench warfare with Novak which sort of contradicts reports that he was working on hitting flatter and hugging the baseline more, looking to end points more quickly.
Oh well, it is all either a Twitter mash-up, (likely), or Uncle Toni blowing smoke, (possible.) :-) |

The Ticker had some bits of a Rafa interview, the link TennisDeb posted has more. The interview was in El Mundo - obviously in Spanish, but for those able to read it here it is, it's an interesting read (and sounds better and more positive than the bits out of context): http://www.elmundo.es/elmundodeporte/2011/12/13/tenis/1323775065.html
I don't know where the Ticker got the people who "run faster than me" - he said "more" (which also makes sense in the context), not "faster" (which doesn't). Ticker's "coodination complex" is a strange expression and frankly doesn't make any sense to me. It's a rather peculiar way of "translating" co-ordination being more difficult (serving left-handed despite not actually being left-handed). And really, word for word translations are not necessarily the best... "todo el mundo" would be better translated as "everybody" not Ticker's "the whole world" - who the heck does these things, anyway? Ah well... |

I mean business and I will not be denied. All Rafa haters need to read
this 100 times and file a full report. Late papers will not be accepted.
Roger Federer is the 2nd greatest of all time. Next only to G*d. G*d in
his (for there's no way it's a her) infinite wisdom has seen fit to give
us Federer fans joy. Suspense. He (for there's no way it's a her) has
given us Rafael Nadal to insure this. Rafa is merely a pawn in G*d's game.
If not for Rafa......Roger would've won everything. Multiple Grand Slams.
Other players would've have been emboldened. A clean sweep across the board. Total domination.
Roger wins again. Ho hum. It would've been dull. He might have retired
from the sheer boredom of it all. Rafa made it interesting. When Roger
wins we ALL rejoice because it's not a given. There's suspense. It's a
thrill. WE ARE BLESSED because Rog is creamy and we believe.
And all because of a sweaty, beady-eyed little bastard who might be gay.
Feliz Navidad! |

I've made a terrible mistake....should've read
"wouldn't" have been emboldened.
I've let Roger down. What's more, I've let you, my faithful audience, down. You depend upon me for mistake free mirth and I almosy made it.
I was on such a roll. I got cocky again and paid the price. Woe is me.

Something's pretty damn rotten in the state of TW when I'm just about the only sober one. |

(major rain in LA right now....I'm thinking.....)
It was 4 PM in Los Angeles. Loud, crackling thunder boomed out of the sky.
Then the rains came. And the wind. It was no time to be out on the street
turning tricks. I adjusted my mini skirt and ran for shelter. My name's
Frank. Frank Rizzo. I'm a tranny without scruples and I got a hardcore
need for speed. Mouth for Meth you might say.
I used to play professional tennis. I made the circuit. Once I hit balls with J Balcells. Later on we played tennis. Memories..................
It's a long way from there to here though. Roaming the back alleys for fresh meat is no way for a girl to make a living. Especially if she's a guy. A girl's gotta eat though. Necessity is the mother of my degradation so I walk these lonely streets looking for a friend. I can't
say it's what I dreamed of growing up but it beats losing to Vince Spadea. |

Los Angeles 4:09
He drove up in a beat up Chevy Impala. He motioned me over.
He said, "What's a girl like you doing in a place like
this?" "Committing several felonies," I replied. "Get
in." I got in. "Aren't you Justin Gimelstob?" "I am."
"I wouldn't act so proud if I were you." "Why?"
"Are you paying for the full hour?" |
