Steve,
Dude, seriously you are such a damn good writer. As much as I LOVE tennis, and I love it a lot, honestly, you may be too talented to simply write tennis columns. Have you considered writing or starting a novel? I think many of us on the this blog would like to know :)
Merry Christmas homie |

Here's an example: "I moved around the party some more, with that feeling of intimacy and alienation that comes with the territory. Leave it to a party to turn you inward. Leave it to a party to feel like the most serious thing you can possibly imagine, where everything is somehow at stake."
man, aint that the truth. Great writing. |

another one I want to read in your collected works someday. The "you only like music that makes you feel good" line made me burst with laughter and want to hide with embarassment at the same time. Merry Xmas, peace be with you. |

It's said that smell is the sense most closely tied to memory. Music makes a mockery of that. |

Does not. ;-) Don't believe me? Just walk into your old high school. Or grammar school.
The nose knows. |

I don't know what to make of this. It confuses and confounds me but since everyone else likes it I'll agree. Magnanimousness is my middle name. It used to be Herbie but cooler heads prevailed. |

"It confuses and confounds me but since everyone else likes it I'll agree"
We don't necessarily all like the piece as much as the author and his charming efforts ;) |

Don't know if any one of our fellow tennis-followers know of Simon Reed from Eurosport. If only he had half the standard of writing as Steve has masterfully exhibited in this article.... |

Ruth said it.....That quote was my favorite.
And as always, we may differ in opinions...but I'll always endeavour to read every word you write.
I enjoy it...even when I disagree. Please keep us in the loop, and give yourself a shameless plug if you ever do anything off this site!
All the best for the New Year, as i've already missed Christmas!
Whata great little read...I think i'm a few degrees too warm myself now after reading that. You've taken me on a wonderful little journey! |

Happy New Year! I love your writing, your passion for tennis really comes through in splendid ways.
Waiting for the last word on the number ones... Silly to throw them into the new year or not? |
